Edibles take longer and land differently than smoking. A plain-language guide to doses, timing, and not having a bad Tuesday.

Every budtender in Massachusetts has said "start low, go slow" so many times it's lost all meaning. So here's the longer version — what's actually happening, and how to use that to have a good night instead of a weird one.

Why edibles are different

When you eat cannabis, your liver converts THC into a compound that hits harder and lasts longer than what you get from inhaling. That's not folklore; it's metabolism.

"I don't feel anything yet" is the most expensive sentence in cannabis.

The clock is the whole game

Onset is commonly 45 minutes to 2 hours, and a full stomach stretches it further. The classic mistake plays out the same way every time: nothing at the one-hour mark, a second dose, and then both arrive together. Set a timer for two hours. If you're still underwhelmed at two hours, that's when a little more is a reasonable call — not before.

What a low dose actually is

For a first run, 2.5 to 5 milligrams of THC. Massachusetts caps a single serving at 5mg for a reason. Our edibles are scored and labeled so you can take half a piece and know exactly what you took — that's part of why we carry the brands we carry.

If you overdo it anyway

You're not in danger, though you may be very sure you are. Water, a boring show, a dark room, and time. It ends. Note the dose that did it, and next time take half.

Edibles reward patience like nothing else on the menu. Give the clock its two hours, and it's the smoothest ride we sell.
